Down on Henrie’s Farm

A story about music and family

Coming soon

Five boys and three girls that grew up together in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. The 5 boys (now men in their 60’s) taught each other as kids/teenagers to play what is called ‘Old-Time’ Appalachian string music.

Known as The David Thoreau Memorial String band, The Henrie Family Band, the Henrie Brothers, or the Henrie Brothers String Band; this film is meant to tell the story of a family through the lens of the boys' music.

If you, or anyone you know might possess any archival photograph or footage (film, video, etc.) of the Henrie Brothers (especially from the 1970s and 1980s) we would like to hear from you!

Although we are interested in seeing whatever might be out there, there is currently one important time and place that remains uncovered by any archival images. That would be the brother’s performance at the 1976 Galax Fiddlers Convention in Galax Virginia on August 12, 13 and 14 of that year.
